Best and Worst of 2008
By: Andrea Trapani
In the fast-paced world we live in, news gets old in minutes. But come December we are ready to reflect on the year past. I must admit I thoroughly relish looking back and reminiscing on the interesting, best and worst, funniest and weirdest stories of the year. The end of the year is for the memory-making news stories that still resonate long after they have become old news. As PR pros, maybe we enjoy this time a little more than most, but I wanted to take a moment to share stories of the year, best and worst.
My personal 2008 list includes: the SNL election skits, Olympics (esp. Michael Phelps), The Dark Knight, return of quality episodes of The Office (the show struggled a bit following the writers’ strike), Kanye West’s newest cd – 808’s and Heartbreak, the Caylee/Casey Anthony case, political infidelity scandals (mayor of Detroit Kwame Kilpatrick topping that list), Kindle, Rick Rolling, the Detroit 3 automakers ask for bailout money, Britney Spears makes a comeback in viral pr campaign, Randy Pausch inspires the nation from a lecture hall, Facebook booms for business and the Web 2.0 2008 presidential election.
And topping my list of top lists (got that?) is Time magazine’s “Top 10 of Everything of 2008”. The Time lists include everything news, sports, entertainment, science and my personal favorite top Viral Videos.
What are stories hit home for you this year? What are your bests and worsts of 2008?
