Atlas Oil Company Purchases New K9 for Taylor Police Department

National fuel supply and logistics company purchases police dog, plans to buy second one, for local police department

TAYLOR, Mich., August 6, 2014– Taylor, Mich.-based Atlas Oil Company announced today the company has purchased a new K9 police dog for the Taylor Police Department, and plans to purchase another one for the department in the near future. Atlas Oil Chairman and CEO Sam Simon made the announcement.

The Taylor Police Department recognized the need to add a K9 unit to its team this past winter, but did not have the necessary funds to secure one. Recognizing Atlas Oil as a strong corporate citizen with a longstanding history of supporting the community, the police department and City of Taylor approached Atlas Oil Chairman CEO Sam Simon with the idea for Atlas Oil to sponsor the dog, and to name it after the company.

“Safety is our top priority at Atlas Oil. This initiative, which will support our law enforcement officials and help keep our local families safe, is a perfect fit for us,” said Simon. “We are always looking for ways to give back to our hometown community, and are honored to be part of this important life-saving project.”

With Atlas Oil’s support, the Taylor Police Department secured Atlas, an 18-month-old German Shepherd, in the spring. After 12 weeks of certification with handler and Officer Rick Barnosky, Atlas is serving regular shifts as the newest member of the Taylor Police Department.

“Having a K9 is like having another officer on staff. These dogs are incredibly intelligent, and are highly skilled at performing in-depth, effective searches and other crucial projects,” said Taylor Police Chief Mary Sclabassi. “We are deeply grateful for Atlas Oil’s continued support as we work to keep our community safe and strong.”

The second K9 will be selected and trained at a later date in the near future.
