Video of the Week: Alfonso Ribeiro Flash Mob Dance
By: Nikki Little
Raise your hand if you’ve ever watched the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (hand raised high). Raise your hand if you’ve ever caught yourself doing the Carlton dance when you hear Tom Jones’ “It’s Not Unusual” song (hand raised high again).
So imagine my, and all the other Fresh Prince fans’, delight when I saw the below video of Alfonso Ribeiro (who played Carlton on the show) leading what is claimed to be the world’s largest simultaneous flash mob. Alfonso and his posse of flash mobbers did the same exact dance, on the same exact day, at the same exact time, in hundreds of cities across the United States and Canada.
The video also includes Carlton’s other famed dance to Apache (Jump On It) by Sugarhill Gang. I’m proud to admit that my college buddies and I would frequently do this dance, so this video truly hits a soft spot in my heart.
Happy Friday, ya’ll! Get your Carlton dance on, and pass this along to those young-ins who were in diapers in the 90’s and don’t appreciate or understand the awesomeness of Carlton and his dances.
