BEVERLY HILLS, Mich., April 8, 2011 – Detroit Country Day School is pleased to announce musicians with the U.S. Air Force Academy Band, the Rampart Winds Woodwind Quintet, will perform a free concert at Detroit Country Day School’s Seligman Performing Arts Center on Tuesday, April 12 at 7 p.m. at the Upper School, 22305 West 13 Mile Road in Beverly Hills, Mich.
As one of only 10 performing ensembles from the United States Air Force Academy Band, this is the first time the Rampart Winds Quintet has performed in Michigan. The group will present a diverse selection of original works, standard and contemporary compositions and patriotic favorites, including one original piece featuring both the DCDS Upper School woodwind quintet and the Rampart Winds Quintet.
“Detroit Country Day School has such a reputation for [its] excellent music program. It seemed fitting that we choose a piece that would give each musician their individual part,” said Technical Sgt. Monica J. Ding of the Rampart Winds. “Usually we would perform a march where the students would double our part. This is the first time that we are departing from that format and using an original piece for double quintet.”
As part of its mission of community relations, educational outreach and Air Force recruiting, the Rampart Winds Quintet will also be providing free in-school clinics and master classes to DCDS Middle and Upper School wind instrumentalists the morning of April 12 at 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
The evening performance is free and open to the public. For more information or to reserve your tickets, call (248) 646-7717, ext. 1093.
