HOLLAND, Mich., July 16, 2009 — U.S. Rep. and Gubernatorial candidate Pete Hoekstra, R-Holland, on Saturday, July 18, will launch his 1,000 miles bike tour of Michigan by participating in the 35th Annual Holland Hundred Bicycle Tour.
The event begins at 7 a.m. in the parking lot of the Herman Miller Greenhouse facility, 10201 Adams (16th) St. in Holland.
“Herman Miller is where it all began for me, and now it is where I will begin biking throughout Michigan” Hoekstra said. “For 16 years I have biked throughout West Michigan and it has given me an incredible perspective on the issues and needs of our workers, their families, and our communities. The 1,000 mile tour of Michigan will allow me the opportunity to hear from a broader group of citizens. I am looking forward to listening to their views and discussing the challenges with and opportunities for the State of Michigan.”
Hoekstra, who joined the Fortune 500 Company after earning his MBA from the University of Michigan and rose to the level of Vice President of Marketing before his election to Congress.
Hoekstra, who has represented Michigan’s Second Congressional District since 1993, launched his gubernatorial campaign in March. He currently serves as the top Republican and former Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and is a senior member of the House Committee on Education and Labor.
