Hoekstra to Perform First Job of “100 Jobs Campaign”
By: Identity Team
DETROIT, July 24, 2009 — When he announced his bid for Michigan Governor in March, U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, R-Holland, promised that during his campaign he would perform 100 different Michigan jobs in all industries. On Monday, July 27, 2009, at 10 a.m., Hoekstra will be in Detroit to launch his “100 Jobs Campaign.” His first stop will be working in the City of Detroit with Inland Pipe Rehabilitation (Inland), a national, Detroit-headquartered, leading provider of underground rehabilitation solutions.
While on the job, Hoekstra will work with an Inland crew on an underground rehabilitation project in which decaying city infrastructure pipes will be repaired with an updated pipe product that will enable water and sewage to better flow to its final destination. This rehabilitation process assists municipalities and engineering firms nationwide in building and maintaining healthier communities.
Hoekstra committed to experiencing 100 jobs to stress the importance of economic development and job creation. Additionally, it allows Hoekstra the opportunity to personally engage with Michigan residents in all different employment areas throughout the state while also hearing from a broader group of citizens.
“Right now, one of the State of Michigan’s greatest exports is our college graduates. In order to keep these important resources here, I am committed to making Michigan one of the top spots for businesses to invest, expand and create more jobs, even in economically challenging times,” Hoekstra said. “Working side-by-side with the hardworking men and women of Michigan will allow me the opportunity to hear the issues and needs of our workers and business owners. I am looking forward to listening to their views and discussing the challenges they face every day.”
Hoekstra is encouraging the public to submit jobs ideas for him to perform on his website, www.HoekstraForGovernor.com. Individuals can go online and submit a suggestion in any industry anywhere in Michigan for Hoekstra to try throughout the campaign. The public can also follow Hoekstra’s journey on his website where he will post blogs, video diary entries and photos of each job he performs.
Prior to being elected as a U.S. Congressman, Hoekstra was the Vice President of Marketing at Herman Miller, a Fortune 500 Company. He also earned his MBA from the University of Michigan.
He has represented Michigan’s Second Congressional District since 1993 and launched his gubernatorial campaign in March. He currently serves as the top Republican and former Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and is a senior member of the House Committee on Education and Labor.
