Winning over the media is as important as winning the game?

I’m not a sports fan. I love going to sports events mainly for the atmosphere, the nachos, and an overall great time. Odd, considering this may seem like a “sportscentric” blog.
However, I do have an obsessive interest about how the media plays into each aspect of our lives. This article is about the interesting connection between media relations and the New York Knicks.
A line from the article reads: “A PR official working for a franchise that previously had a tenuous relationship with the press but now has a new executive in place must understand that winning over the media is almost as important as beating tomorrow night’s opponent.”
Again, it drives home the importance of relationships, accesibility and transparency when it comes to dealing with the media. A great lesson whether you care about who won the game–or not.
