What does social media mean to you?

Toby Bloomberg of the Diva Marketing Blog recently asked B.L. Ochman (whatsnextblog.com), Duncan Wandle (Disney) and Michael Pranikoff (PR Newswire): “What does social media mean to you?”
This week’s answers are pretty on target.
To me, social media is inspiring, thought-provoking and engaging. It’s leaps and bounds ahead of when I first got hooked on the Internet. That was a time when I thought Yahoo chat and AIM conversations were the greatest thing since sliced bread. A time when I thought the Internet’s greatest asset was its ability to provide me with MP3s from Napster (when it was still free, before Metallica and the RIAA). My, how far we have come.
Now we blog, we tweet and we inform through a variety of mediums. We customize our news with feeds and take our content with us via widgets. We share photos, videos and stories. We reach out, we connect and we engage— who we want— whenever we want— wherever we want
We use it in our personal lives. We use it for our businesses and our clients. It has become a staple of our being, in and out of the office.
As a matter of fact, we are connecting right now. So, it’s now your turn to help generate some content. What does social media mean to you?
