Friday Video: Stuffed Monkey Announces Woot Acquisition
By: Mark Winter
Woot.com is an online store and community that focuses on selling cool stuff cheap. The company announced this week that it had signed an agreement to become an independent subsidiary of Amazon. Having a behemoth company like Amazon acquire a lesser-known company like Woot is kind of a big deal, so naturally Woot wanted to get the word out. Woot kicked the traditional means of announcing news to the curb and instead put together this nifty little video of a rapping stuffed monkey announcing the acquisition.
There are two main things I love about this video: It gets the point across in less than three minutes and it’s creative/funny. I also like that in the scrolling text at the end, Woot refers viewers to its blog to leave comments and ask questions about what’s in store for the company. Not to say the company wouldn’t have made as big of a splash with a traditional news release and media outreach, but this is a great example of a successful way to use online tools to share company news and get feedback from consumers.
Cheers to you Woot!
