Friday Funny Video: “I Like Big Butterfingers”

By: Mark Winter

Happy Friday before Memorial Day!

Everyone knows the famous Sir Mix-a-Lot “Baby Got Back” video, right? Butterfinger put a creative spin on the original song as part of its Butterfinger Defense League campaign, which ties into its slogan – “Nobody’s Gonna Lay a Finger on My Butterfinger.” Fans of the buttery candy can submit their original videos showing how they defend their Butterfinger for a chance to win $20,000.

Check out the “I Like Big Butterfingers” video, featuring the infamous Sir Mix-a-Lot (h/t to Ragan.com for including this in a newsletter this week).

Putting aside your feelings for the original song, you can’t say you didn’t laugh during this video (especially when Erik Estrada pops in!). The more important question is, did the video do its job and make you crave a Butterfinger?

Adding creative elements, like humor, to any video content you produce is a step in the right direction to getting people to tune in. Since YouTube has 24 hours of video uploaded every minute, you have to find a way to make your video content worthy of someone spending time to watch it. And no, not even the most creative or humorous videos are guaranteed to go viral (that’s a whole separate post!).

For more thoughts on how to create compelling videos, check out Jen Wright’s post on The Yaffe Group’s Tidbits blog about why awkwardly funny videos work so well in the world of social marketing.
