By: Identity Team

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., December 8, 2011 – Community Legal Resources (CLR) recently named Jennifer M. Oertel, a partner with Southfield-based Jaffe Raitt Heuer & Weiss, P.C., as its Volunteer Lawyer of the Year. Jaffe CEO Richard Zussman made the announcement.

Ms. Oertel was presented with the prestigious award at the organization’s 13th annual Anniversary and Recognition Event, which recognizes the generous efforts of the attorneys who tirelessly donated thousands of volunteer hours to nonprofit organizations across the state.

“The contributions that Ms. Oertel made throughout the year to CLR’s programs and operations were critical to our ability to serve clients,” said Heidi Alcock Mucherie, CEO of CLR. “Her continued willingness to serve is greatly appreciated and we are proud to recognize her as our Volunteer Lawyer of the Year.”

One of Ms. Oertel’s significant accomplishments was helping CLR negotiate an agreement that allowed the non-profit organization to make important contributions to the City of Detroit’s public planning efforts.

Ms. Oertel currently serves as leader of the Firm’s Tax-Exempt Organizations Practice, specializing in all aspects of nonprofit organizations, corporate law and finance, with a focus on start-up and emerging growth companies, securities regulation, mergers and acquisitions and advising broker dealers and investment advisors.

Community Legal Resources delivers free legal services to nonprofit organizations building neighborhoods in Detroit and throughout Michigan. Its mission is to support and empower nonprofit community organizations in Michigan that serve low income individuals and communities, with an emphasis on community economic development, by providing pro bono legal services and technical assistance. The program began in 1998 as an initiative of Michigan Legal Services to connect business lawyers to nonprofit organizations.
