ROSEMONT, Ill., November 13, 2012 – Rosemont, Ill.-based First Hospitality Group, Inc. (FHG) announced today its new 127-room Hilton Garden Inn Milwaukee Downtown hotel, formerly The Loyalty Building, is now open for business. First Hospitality Group, Inc. President and COO Robert Habeeb made the announcement.
The transformation of the Loyalty Building, one of the city’s architectural treasures and an original headquarters of Northwestern Mutual Life circa 1886, began in late 2011.The historic hotel features 127 well-appointed guestrooms, a 24-hour fitness and business center, complimentary high-speed Internet and 4,500 square feet of meeting and event space. The hotel also offers dining options for breakfast, lunch and dinner at The Garden Grille and Bar™, which provides guests with fine dining in a casual, friendly and comfortable setting. It also features a 24-hour Pavilion Pantry convenience mart, which offers last minute sundries, an assortment of beverages, ready-to-cook meals, fresh salads and sandwiches.
“We are thrilled to open the doors of the new Hilton Garden Inn Milwaukee Downtown,” said Habeeb. “Our goal in transitioning this historic property was to preserve its exquisite architectural detail while creating a hotel that will become part of the city’s historic fabric for generations to come. We thank the Milwaukee community for their support and are overjoyed to finally reveal this historic gem of a hotel – one that is truly in a class all its own.”
A Milwaukee and Wisconsin landmark, as well as being featured on the National Register of Historic Places, the redevelopment of this property will create a positive impact on the local economy and job creation, and increase downtown foot traffic. The building features a magnificent five-story atrium, original granite and limestone façades, marble stair treads and wainscoting and one of the best-preserved and most celebrated 19th century commercial interiors in the state.
First Hospitality Group, Inc. owns and will operate the property and the hotel is expected to create 75 jobs. Milwaukee-based Kahler Slater is the architect, interior designer and historic preservation consultant for the project. With a portfolio that includes historic hotels throughout the United States, Kahler Slater was proud to bring that expertise and passion to a project in its hometown.
“This hotel offers all of the benefits that come with Hilton Garden Inn’s strong international brand and the soul that you only find in a historic building,” said David Plank, Kahler Slater associate principal and manager of the Hilton Garden Inn project. “Guests familiar with other Hilton Garden Inn properties will recognize the brand’s signature features and enjoy discovering this hotel’s many one-of-a-kind historic elements.”
In addition to outstanding guest amenities, the hotel offers unique packages, including an experience for Harley-Davidson enthusiasts with a night’s stay, tickets to the Harley-Davidson Museum and much more. As another interest generator for both the community and visitors, the hotel will feature historical black and white Life Magazine photographs on display throughout all common areas of the hotel.
