Jaffe Raitt Heuer & Weiss, P.C. Recognized For Continued Support Of Community Legal Resources

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., November 22, 2011 – Jaffe Raitt Heuer & Weiss, P.C. and its partner Jennifer Oertel were recently recognized by Community Legal Resources (CLR) of Detroit for their dedication to the organization and to the community.

Jaffe Raitt Heuer & Weiss, P.C. was the first law firm to serve as CLR’s community partner, acting as outside general counsel to CLR on a pro bono basis. CLR created its community partner program to offer pro bono corporate counsel arrangements to select community-based non-profit clients. Each partnership lasts over the course of one year with the participating law firm devoting a team of attorneys tasked with addressing the organization’s business legal needs.

Through the community partner program, Oertel helped CLR negotiate an agreement that allowed the non-profit organization to make important contributions to the City of Detroit’s public planning efforts.  She currently serves as leader of the Firm’s Tax-Exempt Organizations Practice, specializing in non-profit and for-profit groups.

Community Legal Resources delivers free legal services to nonprofit organizations building neighborhoods in Detroit and throughout Michigan. Its mission is to support and empower nonprofit community organizations in Michigan that serve low income individuals and communities, with an emphasis on community economic development, by providing pro bono legal services and technical assistance. The program began in 1998 as an initiative of Michigan Legal Services to connect business lawyers to nonprofit organizations.
