SOUTHFIELD, Mich., January 3, 2013 — Southfield-based Farbman Group, a leading full-service real estate company, announced today that for the fourth consecutive year they are sponsoring a food drive to benefit Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan. The event will take place on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at five Farbman Group office buildings, located in Southfield, Bingham Farms, Troy and Detroit. The food drive, titled “Christmas in January,” is aimed at raising awareness for community outreach all year long.
“Each year we have collected more than 3,000 pounds of food, in addition to generous cash donations from both our tenants and the community, providing Gleaners with more than 3,000 meals to feed our hungry neighbors in need in southeast Michigan,” said Andrew Farbman, President and CEO of Farbman Group. “We feel compelled to do our part to support Gleaners during a month when most people aren’t thinking about giving back. We purposely host our food drive in January to remind the community that hunger is a problem that exists year-round, and giving back is not something that should only happen during the holiday season. We greatly appreciate the generosity of our tenants and the local community donating to support this mission.”
Gleaners Community Food Bank recommends donating high protein canned items such as peanut butter, tuna fish, salmon, chicken, ham, stew, chili, beef ravioli and beans. There is also a great need for individually packaged healthy snacks for kids, such as fruit cups, applesauce, cereal bars, fruit bars, granola bars, snack crackers, pretzels, tuna-to-go and 100% juice boxes with no added sugar. Personal care items such as toothpaste, deodorant and soap will be collected as well.
As an added incentive to donate, each person who stops by one of the drop-off locations and contributes either five cans of food or $5 will be entered for a chance to win an iPad Mini, complements of Farbman Group.
Donations can be dropped off at the following locations: Essex Centre, 28400 Northwestern Highway, Southfield, Mich. 48034; Bingham Office Center, 30600-30800 Telegraph Road, Bingham Farms, Mich. 48025; Sheffield Office Park, 3250, 3290 and 3310 West Big Beaver Road, Troy, Mich. 48084; Fisher Building, 3011 West Grand Boulevard, Detroit, Mich. 48202; New Center One Building, 3031 W. Grand Blvd., Detroit, Mich., 48202. Trucks donated by Statewide Disaster Restoration will be stationed outside of each building to collect donations.
