By: Mark Winter
Bloomfield Hills, Mich. – Bill Pulte, founder and chairman of the Detroit Blight Authority and CEO of Michigan-based building products holding company Pulte Capital Partners, has been recognized by Forbes as one of 2014’s Most Influential People under 30 in the energy and industry category.
“It is an honor to be listed among these influential people across the globe who are achieving great and innovative things,” said Pulte. “I am pleased with our progress in the City of Detroit through the Detroit Blight Authority. Although we have only scratched the surface, it’s humbling to see our work being recognized nationally by Forbes.”
In addition to managing Pulte Capital Partners, a private equity firm with $30 million in revenue and 200 employees, Pulte, 25, has been actively working to eliminate blight in the City of Detroit through his non-profit, Detroit Blight Authority. By leveraging the powerful relationships and experience he gained through his grandfather’s business, PulteGroup, Pulte was able to introduce a more efficient blight removal process using mass demolition tactics to improve safety in some of the city’s worst neighborhoods. To date, the Blight Authority has eliminated more than 100 acres of blight in the Eastern Market and Brightmoor neighborhoods and demolition work on 67 additional structures in the Brightmoor neighborhood is slated to begin early 2014.
Forbes’ third annual “30 under 30” issue features 30 young disruptors, innovators and entrepreneurs in different categories who are changing our world. In addition to Pulte, some of those recognized in this year’s list include tennis player Maria Sharapova, NBA superstar LeBron James, Evan Spiegel and Bobby Murphy, cofounders of Snapchat, and HBO actress Lena Dunham.
Pulte graduated from Northwestern University and resides in Bloomfield Hills, Mich.
