Del Taco Hosts Epic Burrito Challenge on Cinco de Mayo

8 Metro Detroiters competed in food challenge for a chance to win free burritos for a year
DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich., May 6, 2014—Del Taco, a leader in the Mexican quick service restaurant industry, celebrated Cinco de Mayo with local community members on May 5 with an Epic Burrito Challenge at its Dearborn Heights location.
Eight contestants competed against one another to eat two of Del Taco’s Epic Chicken Chipotle Ranch Burritos, ranging from 14.0 to 18.5 ounces in weight. Tony Antal, from Dearborn Heights, Mich., won the food eating challenge, finishing the two burritos in two minutes and eight seconds. Antal will receive one Del Taco Epic Burrito per week for a year at participating metro Detroit locations. Eric Castro, from Trenton, Mich., finished in second place and will receive a catering package for up to 20 people from Del Taco, while Chris Blackman, from Waterford, Mich., rounded out the winners in third place. Blackman will receive one meal of his choice for free.

- Epic Fajita Burrito inspired by a sizzling fajita platter, includes freshly-grilled chicken or steak, a blend of roasted vegetables, pinto beans slow-cooked from scratch throughout the day, cotija cheese, lime rice, black beans, sour cream and guacamole.
- Epic Steak & Potato Burrito with freshly-grilled carne asada steak, Del Taco’s famous Crinkle-Cut fries, chipotle sauce, bacon, freshly-grated cheddar cheese and sour cream.
- Epic Chicken Chipotle Ranch Burrito includes marinated chicken grilled fresh in each Del Taco restaurant all day along with lime rice, chipotle and ranch sauces, bacon, freshly-grated cheddar cheese, crisp lettuce, guacamole and hand-made pico de gallo salsa.
