FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich., April 4, 2013 — Corrigan Moving Systems, a Farmington Hills relocation company dedicated to elevating the moving experience for families and businesses, partnered with the Detroit-based nonprofit Back Alley Bikes for a “Scrap Day” and bike drive. Corrigan President David P. Corrigan made the announcement.
Through the initiative, Corrigan donated a moving crew to transport scrap material from Back Alley Bikes’ facility to a nearby recycling center, as well as delivering donated bikes from local businesses to the nonprofit. In addition, Corrigan also hosted a month-long bike drive, collecting new or used bikes, bike parts, bike books and office supplies. In total, employees donated 25 bikes and various cleaning products and crayons to the cause.
“As a family-owned company, we are proud to have partnered with such an inspiring organization that is so earnestly committed to moving our community and our youth forward,” said Corrigan. “I am proud of our team—from those here in the metro Detroit area to our office in New York—for supporting this initiative and giving so generously.”
Founded in 2000, Back Alley Bikes has been providing transportation to kids in and around the Detroit area by repairing and donating the refurbished bikes to them free of charge. Along with donating bikes, the nonprofit trains local youth on the basic bicycle mechanics, through which the kids can either “Earn-a-Bike” or repair one they already owned.
The Back Alley Bikes initiative is part of Corrigan’s yearlong corporate giving campaign, which benefits other local organizations such as Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley and the Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan.
