Energy logistics company performed roof lift-off, mural installation and roof replacement

ARTESIA, N.M., August 30, 2013 – Artesia, N.M.-based Wilbanks Energy Logistics, an energy logistics and rig mobilization company dedicated to delivering solutions that create long-term value and competitive advantage for customers, successfully completed the installation of the 65,000-pound Peter Hurd mural into the new Artesia Public Library on Thursday, Aug. 29. The Hurd mural is the largest of its kind in the world to have been successfully moved. Wilbanks Energy Logistics COO Lance Wilbanks made the announcement.

The Wilbanks team utilized two of its cranes to perform the complicated project, which included lifting the 30,000-pound roof off the library, lifting and installing the 53-foot-long, 17.5-foot-tall, 13.5 foot-wide mural into the library’s main reading room, and placing the roof back onto the building. Wilbanks contributed the mural lift and installation services pro bono to the library.

“We are proud to be part of this very exciting project, and to contribute in a meaningful way to what will soon become a community destination,” said Wilbanks. “We saw this project as a great way to give back to the community that has supported our business and families for so many years.”

Famed Roswell, N.M.-based artist Peter Hurd originally painted the mural, a classic fresco, on a curved wall in the former Prudential Insurance Building in Houston in 1952, using centuries old fresco technique and his own unique color formulas. The priceless mural, titled “The Future Belongs To Those Who Prepare For It,” was saved from demolition with the building last year by a private, Artesia-based donor, and gifted to the new Artesia Public Library, which is slated to open November 9.
