By: Identity Team
SOUTHFIELD, Mich., December 21, 2012 — Southfield, Mich.-based Jaffe Raitt Heuer & Weiss, P.C, and Allstate Insurance Company (Allstate) recently hosted a Street Law Conference attended by 24 ninth grade students from the Detroit School of the Arts. Jaffe CEO Bill Sider made the announcement.
“The Street Law Conference is a wonderful opportunity for us to have a significant real world impact on our local youth,” said Sider. “By partnering with Allstate, we facilitated an educational event with realistic and experiential scenarios. We discussed things that impact the student’s everyday lives.”
The event, which was hosted at Jaffe’s headquarters in Southfield, was an interactive workshop, career fair and legal seminar. Students gained valuable insights during a car accident liability workshop and informative legal and career Q-and-A discussion. The Allstate legal team presented on tort litigation, and members from Jaffe’s intellectual property, real estate, public finance and municipal fairs and estate planning practice groups all presented practical examples in their area of law.
Street Law is a nonprofit organization that creates classroom and community programs to teach people about law, democracy and human rights by incorporating “real-life” lessons. The conference was a part of Street Law’s Corporate Legal Diversity Pipeline Program, which partners corporate legal departments with nearby, diverse high school law classes. In conjunction with the curriculum, Jaffe attorneys visited the Detroit School of Arts to help prepare the students and introduce them to various legal concepts discussed during the conference.
