Detroit Country Day School Students Named 2013 National Merit and Achievement Semifinalists

Twenty-four students eligible to compete for scholarships totaling more than $32 million

BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich., September 27, 2012 – Detroit Country Day School (DCDS) announced that 24 senior class students were named 2013 National Merit and Achievement Semifinalists and will have the opportunity to compete for approximately 8,300 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million. DCDS Headmaster Glen Shilling made the announcement.

DCDS semifinalists include Akua Achampong, Apostolos Apostolou, Nicholas Baran, Vera Barnwell, Richa Bijlani, Sidharth Chand, Brenton Desai, Siddhant Dogra, Hari Iyer, Isaac Kapadia, Pranav Khambete, Ari Korotkin, Alexander Kucy, Oliver Lake, Anna Latos, Nikhil Misra, Kenneth Ozdowy, Anusha Ponduri, Luna Shen, Shefali Sood, Christina Tucker, Anneke von Seeger, Carolyn Xue and Kathy Young.

Semifinalists are categorized as the highest scoring entrants in each state. More than 1.5 million junior class students entered the National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2011 PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. In order to qualify, students must score well on the qualifying test, earn SAT scores that validate the student’s performance on the qualifying test, possess an outstanding academic record throughout high school, and be endorsed and recommended by the high school principal. The scholarships will be presented in spring 2013.
