Members and clients raise $2,000 and stuff 64 backpacks with food for children in need
FORT WORTH, Texas, April 23, 2014 – Members and clients of USFN–America’s Mortgage Banking Attorneys, recently volunteered their time at the organization’s seminar in March in Fort Worth, Texas, to join forces with Blessings in a Backpack, a nonprofit organization helping to feed elementary school children in need.
Twenty-five USFN members and clients fundraised to purchase non-perishable food items and 64 backpacks to be donated to Blessings in a Backpack. Once USFN volunteers had stuffed the backpacks, they were distributed to children whose families qualify for the federal Free/Reduce Meal Programs, but have little or no food on the weekends. Children who benefit from the Blessings in a Backpack program have recorded better test scores, improved reading and math skills by an average of 30 percent, improved health, as well as have exemplified positive behavior. In addition to the backpacks and food items, seminar attendees contributed $2,000 in cash to the charity.
“USFN takes pride in identifying an organization to partner with during our seminars, as we are committed to leaving a lasting impact on the local communities in which we meet,” said USFN Executive Director and CEO Alberta Hultman. “Blessings in a Backpack aligned perfectly with our own goals of building and retaining professionalism, leadership and integrity, and I am pleased with USFN members’ and our clients’ generosity and excitement in giving back to this wonderful organization.”
The Blessings in a Backpack initiative is part of USFN’s bi-annual community service program, in which members and clients are able to volunteer their time to benefit local charitable organizations. Previous beneficiaries include San Antonio Food Bank, Capital Area Food Bank of Texas and San Diego Food Bank.
USFN’s March seminar focused on the evolving industry landscape, and offered servicing professionals an opportunity to learn, engage and share valuable insights and perspectives on topics currently affecting the mortgage industry business.
