ORANGE, Calif., September 27, 2013 – USFN–America’s Mortgage Banking Attorneys, a 50-state trade association serving the mortgage banking industry, is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its founding, making it the oldest not-for-profit association of default service law firms and trustee companies in the nation. USFN Executive Director & CEO Alberta Hultman made the announcement.
“This is an incredible milestone and serves as a testament of our organization’s rich history of creating lasting and productive attorney-servicer relationships,” said USFN President Marcy Ford, partner of Michigan-based Trott & Trott Law Firm. “This is a true celebration of 25 years of excellence, collaboration and innovation.”
A premier resource network serving the mortgage industry, the organization was incorporated on June 30, 1988, and the first meeting of USFN was held with founding board members Dale Dykema, Alan South, Kevin Burke, Lester Leu, Barry Fisher, Robby Wilson, Larry Wilford, Denis Pierce and Tim Krueger in attendance. Under their guidance and the expertise of their predecessors and fellow members, USFN has become known for its unmatched legacy of service, support, industry advocacy and education, and its members remain steadfast in serving as influential voices on emerging legal, procedural and professional issues.
“Twenty-five years ago we were an industry in desperate need of professionalization. There were wild variations in the level of service and expertise available to the industry, and USFN became the arbiter of quality,” said longtime USFN member Larry Phelan, of Phelan Hallinan, LLP in Philadelphia. “Everything you see today that works in the default servicing industry to elevate its members, was a USFN idea—the training seminars, client dispute resolution, ongoing education, publications and legal education retreats were all USFN initiatives that have helped the industry grow and evolve.”
Since its founding, USFN has produced more than 100 educational seminars, as well as provided onsite training sessions for mortgage servicing companies, their professional staff and in-counsel. More than 2,000 mortgage professionals attend a USFN event each year. The organization’s annual Member Education Retreat serves as a yearly opportunity for the industry’s most influential firms to share challenges and develop solutions. And USFN produces the industry’s only state-by-state summaries of the critical regulations and timelines that every servicer must know, including its digital National Mortgage Servicing Reference Directory, a 50 state compendium of statutes and regulatory directives.
“I have worked with several trade groups over my career, “ Hultman states, “ but none come close to the level of knowledge and commitment that the USFN members offer. I am proud to be affiliated with the organization and lucky to work with such a great group of individuals.”
