The Roeper School Celebrates Grand Opening of New Children’s Library

BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich., January 6, 2012 – The Roeper School (Roeper), a co-educational day school for gifted children, hosted a VIP grand opening celebration in honor of The Children’s Library, a new, state-of-the-art library and media center for students, on Thursday, January 5, 2012. Roeper Head of School Philip Deely made the announcement.
The VIP grand opening celebration was held from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. inside The Children’s Library at the Roeper Lower School located at 41190 Woodward Ave. in Bloomfield Hills. The event was held to honor the donors who made the new library possible, including Roeper families, alumni, alumni families, trustees, administrators and members of the community. The $1 million library project was funded solely by donor contributions with the goal of offering more opportunities for students to learn and explore in a variety of formats and environments. The 2,700 square foot facility, which features several green building elements, is double the size of the previous library. This additional space allows Roeper to expand its library collection for the students and offer new media center activities, such as an internal publishing area for students to create their own bounded books.
Nearly 70 guests attended the VIP grand opening celebration, which included a ribbon-cutting ceremony, champagne reception, tour of the library and a gift bag that included a commemorative bookmark. Deely; Denita Banks-Sims, Roeper development director and project manager for The Children’s Library; Steve Milbeck, chair of the Board of Trustees; and JJ Morrow, Lower School director, also specifically acknowledged and thanked the donors for their generous contributions that made The Children’s Library a reality.
“We are extremely excited to open this new space to our students and for our donors to see the impact they have made on our school,” said Deely. “The new library was originally envisioned as the perfect, future library space and The Children’s Library gives that to the students.”
