Midway Companies Project Receives Landmark Award from Houston Business Journal

By: Erin Robinson

HOUSTON, April 15, 2009 — The Jack Blanton Community Center at Yellowstone Academy, a 10,700-square-foot activity center developed by Midway Companies, a Houston-based privately owned, fully integrated real estate development and investment firm, received the 2009 Landmark Award for Community Impact from the Houston Business Journal. The announcement was made by Brad Freels, chairman and CEO of Midway Companies.

The Landmark Awards recognize commercial real estate projects and developments that make a significant impact on the Houston real estate landscape. All projects eligible to receive Landmark Awards must be substantially completed and financially viable, as well as environmentally friendly and a value-add to the community. Midway was selected from a pool of 41 finalists.

Completed in December 2008, the Jack Blanton Community Center at Yellowstone Academy is a 10,700-square-foot, state-of-art activity center that contains a multi-purpose gymnasium, volleyball court, additional classroom facilities and an event center for after-school programs. The center is housed in a reclaimed metal building that was donated and redeveloped by Midway Companies. Yellowstone Academy is a non-profit private school formed to meet the educational needs of low-income, inner-city children.

“We are honored to have taken part in this wonderful project,” said Freels. “The center serves as a haven for children and families throughout the community, and we are thrilled that it has been recognized as an impactful, beneficial and useful resource.”

The Jack Blanton Community Center at Yellowstone Academy was honored at a ceremony on April 8, 2009 at the InterContinental Hotel, and was featured in the April 10, 2009 edition of the Houston Business Journal.
