Detroit Area Rescue Team Partners With Local Rescue Shelter for Dog Supply Donation Drive and Adoption Event
By: Chris Austin
TROY, Mich., August 8, 2013 – The Detroit Area Rescue Team (DART), a nonprofit organization whose mission is to fill operational gaps in the local charity scene, will host a weeklong donation drive to collect supplies and raise awareness for the Detroit Dog Rescue (DDR), a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving the lives of Detroit’s homeless dogs through the city’s first no kill shelter. DART founder Steve Barone made the announcement.
During the drive, DART hopes to fill an entire semi-truck full of requested dog supplies, including food (adult and puppy), treats, large dog bowls, blankets and towels, collars and leashes, dog houses, toys, crates or kennels, dog beds, flea and tick prevention (sprays, shampoos, etc.), and paper towel. Gift cards to Pet Supplies Plus or PetSmart and gas gift cards for the DDR vans are also appreciated. The donation drive will take place Aug. 19–24 at 2075 W. Big Beaver Rd., in Troy. The event will be capped off with a dog adoption day and BBQ on Saturday, Aug. 24 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Six dogs will be on site for adoption.
“There are more than 50,000 stray dogs on the streets of Detroit, and those animals are in need of loving families,” said Barone. “We value Detroit Dog Rescue’s mission and their no-kill policy, and we are thrilled for the opportunity to help them raise critical supplies to continue their mission and help these animals find homes.”
A lifelong Detroit-area resident, Barone, president and CEO of Troy-based Creative Breakthroughs, Inc., founded DART as a way to give back to the community that helped raise him through hands-on events that allow volunteers to make a difference in their community by helping those in need. Both DART and the DDR are nonprofit 501(c)3 organizations.
