Chesapeake Hospitality Makes Contribution to Give Kids The World

Hotel company employees come together to change the lives of children with life-threatening illnesses
GREENBELT, Md., October 30, 2013 – Chesapeake Hospitality, one of the country’s fastest growing third-party hotel management companies, announced today that the company’s employees have raised $60,500 for Give Kids The World (GKTW)—a “storybook” resort where children with life-threatening illnesses and their families are treated to cost-free vacations. Kim Sims, president of Chesapeake Hospitality, made the announcement.
The company’s relationship with GKTW was fostered through Intercontinental Hotel Group (IHG)’s longstanding support of the charity, which was founded by Florida hotelier Henri Landwirth in 1989. However, enthusiasm for the cause has become a part of the fabric of the Chesapeake Hospitality culture—resonating personally and emotionally with the company’s 1600 associates nationwide.
“Our friends at Chesapeake Hospitality have been long-time supporters of Give Kids The World, sharing their time, talents, and hearts through fundraising and volunteering,” Pam Landwirth, GKTW president said. “They are truly an amazing group of people and their corporate commitment to make a difference for our kids with life-threatening illnesses and their families is admirable. Chesapeake Hospitality and all of its employees are a big reason Give Kids The World Village can provide cost free, weeklong vacations for more than 7,300 wish families each year, creating the happiness that inspires hope.”
Each Chesapeake-managed hotel nationwide has a GKTW Ambassador, a designated non-management team member who champions fundraising initiatives at their respective properties. Every year, Chesapeake brings all of the ambassadors to the GKTW Village in Florida to volunteer and work the GKTW mission – to fulfill the wishes of the special children and their families who visit, providing them a magical, memorable experience that will live in their hearts for years to come.
“We are very proud of our Chesapeake Hospitality team for going above and beyond to embrace this amazing cause, and foster collaboration among each other,” said Sims. “Every year I have associates tell me how the trip to the Give Kids The World Village has completely transformed their outlook on life and inspired them to do more for others who face sometimes overwhelming challenges.”
Chesapeake team members have become very creative in launching activities to contribute to the cause at both the property and corporate level – from Valentine’s Day strawberry sales, to “manicures and martinis” events, to garage sales.
