AGIS Forgoes Client Gifts, Donates to Local Charities
By: Erin Robinson
INDIANAPOLIS, December 1, 2008—AGIS, a full-service insurance agency with an office in Indianapolis, has evaluated current economic conditions in the state of Indiana and has made a charitably strategic decision this holiday season. Instead of distributing the traditional holiday gifts to its client roster in a seasonal rite of corporate gratitude, AGIS will this year donate those funds to three local charities.
AGIS of Indiana will make financial contributions to College Mentors for Kids, Damar Services and a family from Riley Children’s Hospital.
The program is a company-wide initiative in AGIS’s five offices in three states, Michigan, Florida and Indiana.
“In current economic times, we anticipate that charitable giving will be down this year in Indiana, and that’s a shame,” said David Norris, president of AGIS of Indiana. “So we will use this opportunity to do our part to reverse that trend. We will commit ourselves this holiday gift-giving season to supporting important projects in our community.”
Founded in 1995, College Mentors for Kids is a non-profit organization that pairs youth with local college student mentors for weekly activities that expose youth to opportunities for higher education. Activities encompass three core topics, including higher education and career, culture and diversity, and community service.
Damar Services has been building better futures for children and adults facing developmental and behavioral challenges for more than 40 years. By providing a unique residential program focusing on potential and independence, Damar makes independence a reality for 93 percent of its residents.
Riley Hospital for Children has been providing children with quality health care in a nurturing environment since 1924. Each year Riley serves more than 160,000 patients from all over the world.
“These organizations deserve to be recognized for the outstanding work they do throughout the year in the community,” said Norris. “We are proud to be associated with and working alongside all three of these important charities.”
Norris hopes that this is a trend that will catch on with other corporate citizens who are in a position to help where help is needed most.
“Our clients and associates, I think, will appreciate our decision, and will be fine with one less fruit basket or box of chocolates this year,” Norris added. “Maybe it will catch on beyond AGIS and be the start of a new tradition.”
