AGIS Foregoes Client Gifts, Donates to Local Charities

Three-year holiday giving tradition part of yearlong philanthropic commitment
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., December 2, 2009—AGIS, a full-service insurance agency with an office in Jacksonville, Fla., will continue the tradition of charitable holiday giving for a third consecutive year as part of the company’s yearlong commitment to local nonprofit support. Instead of distributing the traditional holiday gifts to its client roster in a seasonal rite of corporate gratitude, AGIS will this year donate those funds to First Coast Women’s Services and the Clara White Mission.
In 2009, AGIS launched a company-wide Community Outreach Program, encouraging employees in each office to become involved in a nonprofit organization of his or her choice. The company is providing employees with the time and financial resources necessary to make a difference in the local community.
“With the current state of the economy, it is more important than ever to support the local charities and nonprofit organizations that help our communities,” said Mark Nixon, president of AGIS’s Jacksonville office. “This year we decided that, in addition to our holiday giving tradition, we would implement the Community Outreach Program, encouraging our employees to help several organizations with both donated time and financial support. Thus far, it has been widely embraced throughout our five offices in Michigan, Florida and Indiana.“
First Coast Women’s Services (FCWS) is committed to offering truthful information, emotional support and practical assistance to individuals who are facing unplanned pregnancies. Since 1993, FCWS has been providing pregnancy tests and ultrasounds, options counseling, referrals for prenatal care and other community services.
Founded in 1904, the Clara White Mission strives to reduce homelessness and help at-risk citizens reach their full potential through advocacy, job training and employment by partnering with local businesses. The Clara White Mission provides transitional housing, daily meals and hopefulness to Jacksonville’s homeless and low-income individuals.
Nixon hopes that this is a trend that will catch on with other corporate citizens who are in a position to help where help is needed most.
