HOLLAND, Mich., July 23, 2009 — U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, will begin the second leg of his 1,000-mile bike tour through the state of Michigan on Saturday, July 25, by biking to the parade for the National Baby Food Festival in Fremont.
The 10-mile ride begins at 8 a.m. in the parking lot of the Fremont Co-op, 540 W. Main St.
“I am continuing to meet with new people and hear about their ideas for the future of Michigan, as well as enjoy the natural scenery of our great state,” Hoekstra said. “It is encouraging to listen to their excitement for the future once we implement a model of success.”
Participating in Saturday’s ride will be Dr. Christopher Judson of the Pine Medical Group, as well as Bob and Susan Jordan of Fremont, who recently completed a cross-country bike tour.
Prior to being elected as a U.S. Congressman, Hoekstra was the Vice President of Marketing at Herman Miller, a Fortune 500 Company. He also earned his MBA from the University of Michigan.
He has represented Michigan’s Second Congressional District since 1993 and launched his gubernatorial campaign in March. He currently serves as the top Republican and former Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and is a senior member of the House Committee on Education and Labor.
