Super Bowl Commercials: Top 4 Brands to Watch This Year

By: Rachel Bonello

Every year without fail, the Super Bowl brings together many of the greatest things America has to offer, like football, finger-foods and ridiculously high-profile advertising. Super Bowl 50 is turning out to be no exception. Plan to witness your favorite brands fighting for 30 seconds of your attention to make you laugh, cry (yes we’re talking to you Nationwide) and repeatedly re-watch their ads on YouTube the next day.

As communication professionals, we deem it a vital (and entertaining!) part of our job to research which Super Bowl commercials will leave a lasting impression during this year’s big game. Below are the top four brands we anticipate will create a splash:

1. Anheuser-Busch: Bud Light

The Anheuser-Busch brand will be highlighting four of its beer brands this year with three full minutes of advertising (that’s about $18 million if you were wondering). Out of the Budweiser, Bud Light, Shock Top and Michelob Ultra ads planned, we are looking forward to what Bud Light has in store. The brand teased a preview of their commercial, featuring comedians Seth Rogan and Amy Schumer as pseudo-running mates in a political campaign. Their party of choice? Bud Light! Combine today’s hottest comedians with a classic cheap beer brand in the middle of a presidential year and what do you get? Magic.

2. HEINZ Ketchup

The classic ketchup brand’s 2016 Super Bowl commercial strives to win America’s hearts—with hotdogs, ketchup and an army of wiener dogs. Yes, you read that right. HEINZ organized a commercial featuring a “wiener stampede” of tiny, running dachshunds in hot dog suits. The commercial will kick off the “Meet The Ketchups” campaign, which is meant to introduce the brand’s family of condiments. The ad has already been teased, but we haven’t gotten sick of watching it yet.

3. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles

The “home grown” ad centric Fiat Chrysler has had the tendency to make a lasting impression with their Super Bowl ads. Past commercials include the iconic Eminem “Born of Fire” ad in 2011, “Halftime in America” in 2012 and “God Made A Farmer” in 2013. Although the brand has not released any details as to what they have up their sleeve this year, we can guess it will push the popular Jeep brand and the newly announced Pacifica minivan. We look forward to another powerful and impactful message in 2016.

4. Pokemon

Didn’t see this one coming did you? Pokemon will air its first-ever Super Bowl commercial this year to celebrate the brand’s 25th anniversary. But don’t be fooled by the cartoons and playful game vibe, Pokemon delivers an inspiring “I Can Do That” message to get viewers motivated and intrigued. The ad doesn’t promote the Pokemon brand until the very end, so watch the full clip in order to catch em’ all.

There you have it folks. Bud Light, HEINZ, Fiat Chrysler, and Pokemon made our list of brands to watch during this Sunday’s big game. On a mission to capture the emotional, comedic and heartfelt moments in our lives, we think these ads will each bring something unique to Super Bowl 50.

Happy viewing!
