Detroit Country Day School Announces New Trustees

BEVERLY HILLS, Mich., Sept. 23, 2014– Detroit Country Day School (DCDS), an independent, non-denominational, college preparatory school, announced today that Jonathan Aaron, Mary Barra, Donald Nystrom, Erica Prime and Anne Weiner have joined the DCDS Board of Trustees. DCDS Headmaster Glen Shilling made the announcement.

“As we celebrate our centennial, our goal is to set a definitive course for the next 100 years,” said Shilling. “Our new Trustees are all active parents in our community and bring a fresh strategic perspective to our educational objectives. We are honored to have them serve our school in this new role and continue to solidify DCDS as a global leader in education.”

Aaron is a principal member of The Velvel Group, LLC, an entity created to provide trustee, fiduciary and family office services. An active member in the community, he is also president of the William Davidson Foundation and director and secretary of The Ravitz Foundation. Aaron received a Bachelor of General Studies from the University of Michigan and his juris doctorate from Michigan State University College of Law.

Barra currently serves as CEO of General Motors, and under her leadership, is driving the company to become the global industry leader in automotive design and technology, product quality and safety, customer care and business results. She is also a board member of General Dynamics. A graduate from General Motors Institute (Kettering University) with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Barra received her Masters in Business Administration from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

A 1988 DCDS alumnus, Nystrom is President of Dynamic Aerospace and Defense, and the COO of its parent company, Dynamic Industrial Group, which primarily invests in manufacturing entities serving the aerospace, defense, automotive and rail industries. A graduate of Boston University, Nystrom received his juris doctorate from Michigan State University College of Law.

Prime, a 1985 graduate of DCDS, is an educational psychologist and owner of Psychological Assessment Services, a full-service provider of comprehensive psycho-educational evaluations and consulting services. Prime received her bachelor’s degree in psychology and communications from the University of Michigan, Master of Arts in Public Communication from American University and Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Psychology from Wayne State University.

Since 1997, Weiner has actively served DCDS in various leadership roles through which she has launched and developed several initiatives, including Earning 4 Learning, Art from the Heart and Celebrate the Arts. Weiner earned her bachelor’s degree from Wellesley College and her MBA from Roy E. Crummer Graduate School of Business at Rollins College.

These new trustees will join the following DCDS Board of Trustees members in directing the leadership of the school: Terence E. Adderley, Terrence Barr, Jonathan Boos, Thomas W. Cunnington, Tom J. Goldberg, H. Samuel Greenawalt, C. Michael Kojaian, Michael Sappington, Donald Stebbins, David Trott and Kenneth Whipple.
