BEVERLY HILLS, Mich., October 14, 2014– Detroit Country Day School (DCDS), an independent, non-denominational, college preparatory school, announced today the donation of 30 new pieces of original student-created artwork to the Children’s Hospital of Michigan as part of the 12th annual “Art from the Heart” program. Glen Shilling, Detroit Country Day School headmaster, made the announcement.

Established as a collaborative program between Detroit Country Day School and The Children’s Hospital of Michigan, Art from the Heart seeks to cheer young patients and their families by transforming the hospital with bright, colorful art. Each spring, an art advisor from The Children’s Hospital of Michigan carefully selects inspirational pieces from artists in every grade level during the annual “Celebrate the Arts” festival hosted by the Friends of the Arts Association at DCDS.

“Not only do our students put great care and imagination into creating their works of art, but they are eager to give back to the community and show their support for this initiative,” said Shilling. “Art from the Heart is just one of the many ways in which our students develop outstanding talent, alongside a strong, compassionate character.”

Since the program’s beginning, DCDS students have donated more than 400 pieces of artwork to The Children’s Hospital of Michigan. This year’s exhibit will be on display in the hospital’s cafeteria until it is moved to its permanent home in various locations throughout the hospital next fall.

DCDS Friends of the Arts Association provided the grant to frame the students’ creations and hosted a special preview event and ceremony for the student-artists, family and friends. Friends of the Arts supports and promotes the Fine and Performing Arts curriculum, activities and programs of the students attending Detroit Country Day School.
