BEVERLY HILLS, Mich., June 19, 2012 — Detroit Country Day School is pleased to announce Senior Amy Sun has received the only $10,000 AXA Achievement Scholarship awarded to a student in the state of Michigan. Detroit Country Day School Headmaster Glen Shilling made the announcement.
Only one student from each state, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico are selected by AXA Nonprofit Partner Scholarship America each year to receive this one-time scholarship. Winners of the scholarship are ethnically and economically diverse, and are chosen based on the qualities of ambition and drive, determination to set and reach goals, respect for self, family and community, and ability to succeed in college.
“We are extremely proud of the fact that a Detroit Country Day School student was chosen as the only recipient of this elite award in the state,” said Shilling. “Amy is an outstanding student deserving of this honor who has achieved so much in her career here. She has a perfect 4.0 G.P.A. and completed honors or Advanced Placement courses in every area of study, is the founder of the Chess Club, captain of the Destination Imagination team, is an accomplished pianist and violinist, and holds varsity letters in swimming and women’s ice hockey.”
The AXA Foundation is the philanthropic arm of AXA Equitable, directing the company’s philanthropic and volunteer activities and working to improve the quality of life in communities across the country where AXA has a presence.
