TAYLOR, Mich., April 16, 2009 — Michigan-based J.S. Vig Construction Company announced today that The City of Romulus, Milford-based General Bearing Corporation, Southfield-based Central Business Park, and Birmingham-based private equity firm Strength Capital Partners (on behalf of its portfolio companies) have signed agreements to be the latest clients for the Project Green Team business unit. J.S. Vig CEO Joseph Vig, LEED AP, made the announcement.

The Project Green team consists of LEED accredited staff and subcontractors dedicated to providing practical solutions to improve the energy efficiency, water efficiency, thermal comfort, safety, air quality and lighting quality of commercial buildings. After an audit of an organization, clients are presented with recommendations, an accompanying budget and projected paybacks on operational and capital improvements. Key staff members are then trained on how to effectively implement and maintain the program. Projects will conclude with a “green opening” to celebrate the improvements that were made, recognizing that a sustainable operation is a process, not an event.

“The response to the Project Green Team has been overwhelming,” said Vig. “We are currently in negotiations with municipalities, schools and private organizations on projects ranging in size from $25,000 to $500,000. While there is a lot of skepticism about the term ‘green,’ every building owner wants to reduce their utility bills and improve the safety and quality of their workplace environment. We have found that many cost saving measures simply involve educating the owner on how to improve the operation of their existing building systems.”

J.S. Vig is currently developing the Project Green showroom in Ann Arbor, Mich. The showroom will act as a resource center for commercial construction professionals and building owners interested in learning more about sustainable construction and property management. Scheduled to open July 2009, the showroom will support J.S. Vig’s construction operation and the Project Green Team’s work on existing buildings.

Vig Construction Company, a full-service general contractor and construction management company, announced today that it has recently broke ground on a new Hampton Inn Hotel and Suites in Romulus, Mich. J.S. Vig CEO Joseph Vig, LEED AP, made the announcement.

Located at the corner of Smith and Merriman Roads, the new 78,904-square-foot, six-story hotel site will feature 126 rooms and various amenities including a pool, spa, large breakfast area and conference room.

The new hotel’s location is also within close proximity to Detroit Metropolitan Airport, requiring the use of soundproof windows and the construction of an underground water detention system that will be used to keep migratory birds and other waterfowl away from the area. Construction is scheduled to be completed in February 2010.

This is the second major hospitality project in the Romulus area for J.S. Vig in the past 12 months. The company previously completed a major renovation and addition for an Embassy Hotels and Suites location in January 2008.

Vig Construction, a full-service general contractor and construction management company, has received the prestigious 2009 Pyramid Award for the Best Project Team between $3 million and $25 million from the Washtenaw Contractors Association (WCA). J.S. Vig CEO Joseph Vig, LEED AP, made the announcement.

For more than a decade, the Pyramid Awards have recognized the outstanding performance of companies and individuals working within the Washtenaw County construction sector. Displaying a high degree of cooperation between project team members, honorees are selected by an independent panel composed of construction industry experts.

J.S. Vig was honored for their contractor role in the renovation and expansion of the Romulus Athletic Center. Located in Romulus, Mich., the new 89,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art recreation facility features a running track, fitness area, aquatic center with five indoor pools and a 30 foot slide, an outdoor pool, concession building, locker rooms, two cafes, banquet facilities, three gyms, rock climbing wall, youth center and child care area.

From the 11 project entries, the Pyramid Award judges recognized the project team of J.S. Vig, Wilkie & Zanley Architects (a Sidock Company) and The City of Romulus for their constant communication throughout the construction process, development of value engineering ideas and strategies for overcoming regulatory hurdles created by the facility’s close proximity to Detroit Metropolitan Airport.

This is the fourth time J.S. Vig has been honored by the WCA. The company previously won the Pyramid Award for Best Project Team in 2002, 2007 and 2008.

ANN ARBOR, Mich., February 11, 2009 — Southeast Michigan-based J.S. Vig Construction Company announced today that is has completed construction of the new Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory (GLERL) for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Craig Singer served as the developer and Neumann/Smith as the architect. The announcement was made by J.S. Vig CEO Joseph Vig, LEED AP.

Located in Ann Arbor, Mich., the GLERL focuses on issues such as invasive species, water levels and health of the lakes that provide drinking water as well as recreational and commercial opportunities to residents of eight states and two Canadian provinces.

The 54,423-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility contains modern wet and dry laboratories, conference facilities, a library, marine instrumentation shop and office space to accommodate nearly 120 federal and cooperative institute employees. The site is one of only seven NOAA facilities in the United States.

“The entire project team focused on incorporating sustainable features throughout the facility in order to create a one-of-a-kind ‘green’ environment for the lab’s staff,” said Vig. “To reduce the project’s carbon footprint, the team included elements such as the preservation and restoration of green areas, recycled building materials, a high-tech variable volume lab hood system, daylighting and views from labs and offices, low VOC finish materials, an indoor environmental quality work plan during construction and a complete building air flush before occupancy. The developer also relocated building’s footprint to allow for preservation of a 100-year-old Oak Tree, that now frames its entry.”

ANN ARBOR, Mich., January 29, 2008 — Southeast Mich.-based J.S. Vig Construction Company, a full-service general contractor and construction management company, announced today that it has joined the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The announcement was made by J.S. Vig CEO Joseph Vig, LEED AP.

Founded in 1993, the USGBC is a nonprofit trade organization committed to expanding sustainable building practices. Its membership is composed of 15,000 organizations from across the building industry that are working to advance structures that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work. The USGBC also developed the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System for use in developing high-performance, sustainable buildings.

“The USGBC is the preeminent authority on green building best practices,” said Vig. “By aligning ourselves with such a respected organization, we will be able to tap into the state-of-the-art programs and resources available to USGBC members and expand the services we offer to architects and project owners who are interested in learning more about sustainable construction.”

J.S. Vig recently announced the opening of a new office based in Ann Arbor, Mich. that will serve as the headquarters for Project Green, a green building resource center designed to expand the company’s sustainable construction practice area and educate property owners, developers and the general public on the benefits and costs associated with green building.
