INKSTER, Mich., December 13, 2010 – Inkster-based Starfish Family Services (Starfish), a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating brighter futures for the children of at-risk families in metropolitan Detroit, recently received a $10,000 grant from the Metro Health Foundation. Starfish Chief Executive Officer Ann Kalass made the announcement.

The grant was awarded to Starfish for the purchase of new vision and hearing testing equipment to screen underprivileged children, ages 0-5, attending Starfish Head Start programs in western Wayne County.

“The physical well-being of our children is a key ingredient of school readiness.  So, we are extremely grateful for the wonderful and generous support of the Metro Health Foundation,” said Kalass. “As more children and families reach out to us for help, the need for added resources from organizations like Metro Health Foundation become a vital part of our continued success.”
