24/7
We know now that we live in a world with a “24-hour news cycle.” As professionals who work with the various media day in and day out, this also means that we operate in a 24-hour PR cycle.
Thinking about work this weekend—which I should not be doing on Father’s Day—I was reminded of this reality, which we’ve all seemed to accept with little ado or fanfare. But news cycle aside, the 24/7 nature of the Internet, a medium that plays an increasingly significant role in our marketing strategies and tactics (blogs, social networking sites, e-marketing, et. al.), means that we can never rest on our laurels.
Add to this that the business world’s connection to the Internet, each other, and news events is round-the-clock, thanks to Blackberrys, PDAs, wifi, etc., meaning there really is no such thing as “off time.” We’re always turned on, plugged in, and acutely aware of—and participating in—the news around us…as it happens.
Good thing I like my job.
